November 23, 2022, Amman, Jordan – Dr. Rajai Sweis, CEO of Middle East Insurance Company (MEICO) was awarded “Insurance Industry Leader of the Year” at the 9th Middle East Insurance Industry Awards (MIIA), held at the Conrad Hotel, Dubai on 21 November. This award was presented to him in recognition of his sound leadership, business acumen, and progressive vision in leading the organization to where it stands now.

Upon receiving the award, Dr. Rajai Sweis said; “It is an honor to receive such a prestigious award from the Middle East Insurance Industry Awards (MIIA). I am also glad that I have been able to contribute to the advancement of the insurance industry and the service community as a whole, and honestly, I believe this is an achievement for my company and colleagues as well. Finally, I would like to thank MIIA for recognizing me through this award.”

Dr. Rajai brings along nearly five decades of not only extensive industry experience and technical insights and expertise but also, more importantly, a sincere passion for advancing the insurance arena to serve the best interests of beneficiaries across the region. He is also one of the first in the Arab World to receive the Chartered Insurance Institute (FCII) Fellowship and the first in the region to obtain and combine both a Ph.D. and a Fellowship in insurance.

Upon Dr. Rajai’s joining to Middle East Insurance Company (MEICO) in 1992, he propelled the company forward. With his leadership, MEICO currently ranks first in Shareholders’ Equity. MEICO’s share of the Jordanian insurance market has also reached a high level. It is now the largest in Marine, Bankers Blanket Bond, Computer Crime, and Engineering insurance; second in Property Insurance; fourth in Life Insurance; and is the only company in the Kingdom to offer Marine Hull Insurance (ocean-going vessels) – not to mention that it has become more widely spread in the country than any other insurer.

As part of his belief that every insurance leader should be empowered with the knowledge and training, Dr. Rajai encourages and supports the industry by presenting a periodical award under his name at the General Arab Insurance Federation Conferences (GAIF), acknowledging the best research in insurance studies in the Arab World. Five awards have been given so far. He prioritizes the development and ongoing learning of MEICO’s employees within the organization, providing them with the necessary support to obtain professional degrees.

The award winners edged out over 200 entries from the MENA region to earn the top spots, proving their mettle and commitment to the sector in an increasingly dynamic competitive environment and digitalized business world.
